I didn't have a tree skirt. And I needed one. I had a great idea to make one, but couldn't find all the supplies I needed. So that idea got ixnayed.

Plan B: an idea taken from Crate and Barrel.

Modified.

First I got a very large piece of felt.  The string is to make a tool (whose name escapes me), that I safety pinned one end down and tied the other to a sharpie.  Then I drew a circle.

And I cut the circle out.  As well as making a little circle in the middle and cut a slit from outside to inside.

After raiding my mom's old button supply (in a jar that was quite full and quite dusty), I sewed them on the felt.  This was very therapeutic, and a good way to get caught up on a few weeks worth of neglected DVRing.

Then I put it under the tree.  TADA!

 

 This is my favorite button.  'Cause it's sparkly.  And it's old.

And there you have it.  My Christmas tree, complete with a new tree skirt.

Stitcher's Cramp

Remember the before, or the progress post. Well, if you don't, go take a look. Maybe these pictures will refresh your memory?

Well, my hand is sore and tight, but my bed will now be adorned with the quilt that I made. What a proud moment when I stitched the last stitches in the binding after months and months of investing and working on it.

It's big. I could lay on one side of it, fold the bottom up over me coming to my neck, then roll me up like a burrito. You've heard of baby burritos right? You know when you swaddle them as newborns. Well, I've just made the world's largest blanket to make adult burritos.

The finishing results of the entire thing you ask. Oh, you want a picture. Well, hold on. Being the size of the quilt, I need a full audience participation standing on something tall and holding it up, and then someone to take the picture. I suggested to my dad that we lay it on the grass in the front yard and stand on the roof to take a pictures. We didn't do that though.

And if you want to see it in it's full force natural state, you'll have to come and visit it at my house. And while you're there, you can visit me too!

Quilt Swatches

My quilt is so close to being done! It's so close I can feel the snuggliness of it on my bed. Yesterday I dropped it off to the quilt shop so they can stitch the backing, batting, and top pieces together in some fancy pattern. 3 weeks from now I should have it back. Then I just need to put the binding (edge) on it and throw it on my bed.

To tide you over on what the quilt looks like, here's a pictures of the progress:

Here's all the fabrics spilling out of a bag. Yep, I had to make sense of it all.

And I did. Look it, they're all sewn together. Well, almost all; there are one or 2 missing. Ohhhh....awwwww.... Look at the pretty color and patterns...

That's what the back looks like. I'm not showing you the front yet. I'm gonna keep you all in suspense for now.

Check back in 3-4 weeks. Then I'll show you the WHOLE thing. And I'll cross another thing off my resolution list.

By the way. It's a big quilt. Much bigger than I had planned. Let's just say that to find a sheet for the backing, which luckily I found flannel, I had to get a CAL KING! Yea, that's a big arse sheet, and it just barely finds the length of the quilt. And my bed is only a queen...

Oh yea, and in order to quilt, I had to get a sewing machine. It's a Baby Lock. It's a small, compact, quiet little thing.
