Singledom

As a once again single gal, I'm always looking for and reading "advice". Sometimes it doesn't take much looking, it's right there on msn.com when I open the internet at work.

So I read it.

Cause I'm lame.

And I need help. Obviously I can't figure finding a guy or dating out on my own.

So yesterday had a pretty good article...

"8 Ways to Get Him to Notice You in 10 Days"

  1. Stop playing hard to get.
I honestly don't think I'm playing hard to get. Really, am I playing a game at all?
  2. Be attentive.
I am attentive. I've very attentive. How much more attentive do I need to be?
  3. Try something new.
Ummm... Help a Sista out. I don't know what to try. HELP!
  4. Let your guard down.
This one is a little hard. After being burned so many times you start to build a wall. I need someone to march around my little Jericho walls to knock them down. Someone that won't burn me after I let my guard down. I have a huge fear of rejection. Wonder why...
  5. Stop texting and no one gets hurt.
I know when to leave my phone alone.
  6. Know the power of your outfit.
Here's another help area. I need a personal shopper. Someone who knows what kind of clothes go good with my body type and skin tone and eye color. I just don't have a bajillion dollars to pay for a personal shopper person. Help!
  7. TMI is never a good thing.
I'm reserved. Until my guard is down (see #4), I reveal very little about myself. At least very little of my heart and feelings. Sure, I can talk about the weather and the latest news til the cows come home. And I'll listen like no other at what he's saying, feeling, dreaming. But give me some time.
  8. Keep him wanting more.
I first have to figure out how to get him to want anything (or me) at all. Then I'll work on the keeping him wanting more.
Obviously there's more to it then the 8 points, so visit the article.

This is hard stuff to figure out.

Seriously it is.

Go Thunder!

Awhile back, some weeks ago. Gosh, you know, I can't remember when. More than a week ago, less than 2 months ago.

Point is, I went to a hockey game. There! Phew, finally got it out. My friend Krista ended up with some extra tickets from work. So I got to join her, as well as Kaitlin and Stacey.
We watched the Stockton Thunder vs., well, I can't remember who they played.
You know what my favorite part of any hockey game is? When they fight. Or try to fight.
You see, the rule is that once the helmets and gloves come off the refs can't break up the fight. So punches are thrown.
Teeth are knocked out. Ok, I made that one up. But is it a coincidence that many a hockey players are missing teeth...?Eyes are bruised. I made that one up too. But I'm sure black eyes are a result of the fights too.
Oh no! They hit the ground. The refs can now officially break up the fight.

Pretty cool rule, huh? Or should I say eh? It's Canadian, like hockey, eh.
On with the game! The other team was winning. Then we scored. Then we scored another time. But so did the other team.
Hey, it's time to capture the fans! Hi Kait and Krista!
Woo Hoo! Here's one of our goals!
Who are those hotties?!? Hey good lookin' single guys out there, we're both single too! For a good time call... Just kidding.

I'm not going to post our phone numbers here. Just leave me a comment. Check out the creepy guy in the background! Ok, creepy guy actually works with Krista. Poor thing, he's a little awkward. Friendly, but awkward.

And back to the game. Stockton's colors are black and yellow. The other team, whom ever the are, were, ah, red and gold. I'm guessing really. And squinting at the picture trying to remember.
I tell you what. My family, my parents primarily but my siblings and I have inherited it, can know just about anyone where ever we go. Case in point, see the guy in blue on the end and the gal in the middle of that cluster of 4? I know them. They're from Hilmar. And I grew up going to the same church as them.

They were afraid we were going to tell on them. Although, we agreed that what happens at the hockey game stays at the hockey game.
Go Thunder! Another goal!I'm an saddened to inform you that Stockton Thunder lost to the other team in overtime. But boy did they play hard.

Especially that Huxley. Right, Kaitlin?

90,000

My car just recently turned 90,000 miles old.
And it's still kickin'.

Or drivin'.

Whatever.

*Disclaimer: I was on the freeway, hence the speed. But there weren't many other cars on the road, hence the quick picture. And it was 66 degrees that late afternoon while driving to Costco.

Kazunheint

Sunny with a chance of WINDINESS!

Spring is here. Trees have budded and bloomed. *sneeze* Flowers have bloomed. *sneeze* Flowers have died off. *rejoice I can breath again* Then, just when you think its safe to decrease the amount of times you take a 24 hour zyrtec in a day, the winds kick up and stir all that pollen around again.

I was finally sleeping through the night again and not waking up at 3am, 5am, and then again at 5:30am to blow my nose, sneeze, shove kleenex up my nose to stop the running, drink water because my throat has dried out due to not being able to breath through my nose. But it's back. No more peaceful sleep. This darn wind is blowing everything around.

My dog has got me figured out. She knows "that sound" when you start to catch your breath before sneezing. When she hears me start up she bolts from the bed and retreats to her dog bed. In the other room.

See, the dog isn't sleeping well this season either!

I look forward to the day that I don't have to take an allergy pill before I go to bed to last through the night. I look forward to the day that my sneezes are rated at work. I look forward to the day when I don't wake up with a stuffed, dripping nose and leaky eyes. I look forward to the day when allergies are no more, even if just for a season.

Like winter. I'll take winter back.

Minus the fog and cold.

Or just give me a nice rain storm to knock all the pollen out of the air.

'Scuse me while I go blow my nose.

*honk, honk* *pppppphhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmppppppppp*

(FYI, I don't claim I can speak German. So I have no idea if "kazunheint" is spelt correctly.)

My money's on the gorilla

Who would win in a fight between a gorilla and a pack of hyenas?

My instinct says the hyenas. Hello? Have you ever seen Lion King? But then King Kong was a gorilla. So, the big guy. He could totally flick away the little hyenas.

I really don't know. I don't know if I'd really like to witness that fight either...

Monday Mumblings

I'm so stinkin' sore!!! But hey, I have half a path from my driveway to my front porch and the pile of bricks in the backyard had decreased. Only took 5 1/2 hours, but I had help and got to it!
----------
Debbie can't fit me in!!! I wanna cry. I was really hoping I could get a massage today. Boo! :(
----------
Friday's dinner was almost better as leftovers today then it was as dinner Friday night... Hummm... Odd. Still good though. And healthly! Bonus!
----------
Need to remember to charge camera battery tonight before going to Phil Wickham concert tomorrow. Note to self...
----------
I'm REALLY excited about having an egg salad sandwich for dinner tonight. I'm so excited you don't even KNOW my excitement. I love egg salad sandwiches. And this is about the only time of the year that I eat them.
----------
I skipped Weight Watchers today. Why? Because I can. And because I ate a lot over the weekend. And because I don't want to face a gain this week...again. So I'm committing to being good. Forever.

Good Friday?

I receive a weekly e-mail from gotquestions.org. Got Questions is a Christian site where you can ask any question on Christianity and/or the Bible and it will spit out about 101 answers. Today's e-mailed question and answer are below, which I thought were fitting given what today is...

Question: "What is Good Friday?"
Answer: Good Friday is the Friday immediately preceding Easter Sunday. It is celebrated traditionally as the day on which Jesus was crucified. Assuming that Jesus was crucified and died on a Friday, should Christians remember Jesus' death by celebrating Good Friday?

The Bible does not instruct Christians to remember Christ’s death by honoring a certain day. The Bible does give us freedom in these matters, however. Romans 14:5 tells us, “One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.” Rather than remembering Christ's death on a certain day, once a year, the Bible instructs us to remember Christ’s death by observing the Lord’s Supper. First Corinthians 11:24-26 declares, “...do this in remembrance of me...for whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.”

Why is Good Friday referred to as “good”? What the Jewish authorities and Romans did to Jesus was definitely not good (see Matthew chapters 26-27). However, the results of Christ’s death are very good! Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” First Peter 3:18 tells us, “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit.”

Many Christian churches celebrate Good Friday with a subdued service, usually in the evening, in which Christ’s death is remembered with solemn hymns, prayers of thanksgiving, a message centered on Christ suffering for our sakes, and observance of the Lord's Supper. Whether or not Christians choose to “celebrate” Good Friday, the events of that day should be ever on our minds because the death of Christ on the cross is the paramount event of the Christian faith.

I'm in the corn casserole Hall of Fame

Not that I'm famous, but it's my "claim to fame"...

My claim to fame... Although it's not really my recipes everyone seems to like to give me credit for it. I have a recipe that I got from an Aunt of mine called Fiesta Corn Casserole. I've made it countless times for different dinners with friends. Now, don't go thinking that I'm boring and can't make anything else, that I always have to rely to the recipe that I can recite in my sleep. Cause that's not true, the boring part that is. I can recite it the recipe in my sleep, scary I know! So everytime (well, not everytime) I'm invited to a dinner and I offer to bring something (like every good guest should), I'm asked to bring "Courtney's Corn Casserole".

I even made a boo boo once while making it, but now it's the favorite. I grabbed the wrong can at the grocery store, and instead of diced green chilis we ended up with diced jalapenos. Let me tell you, spicy but delish! Now I generally put a can of each to make it more of a mild spicy (when I say a can of each it's because I'm doubling the recipe.)

You want the recipe?

Of course you do!

Go here!

Ok, so I can't make it a hyperlink yet, but I will. I promise.

Mental note, add link when I get home.

Someone remind me around 5pm please...

Keeping in touch from Hilmar to Anchorage

How does one keep in contact with someone else far, far away? Texting, lots and lots of texting, that was how we stayed in contact during the day. In the evening we would talk on the phone. Sometimes our calls were in little 5 minute increments, sometimes they were much much longer. Most the time they were longer. The relationship lasted long enough for us to each travel and visit each other once. Fortunately, shortly after we "met" online his employer sent him to San Francisco for some meetings and training; so he was able to extend his trip and come to the valley to visit me.

Although we're no longer in a romantic relationship we still talk and communicate, just not as frequently as before. Texting is the primary method, with the occasional call.

Thank goodness for modern technology. I couldn't even image if I were living in the 50's where letters and shared phone lines were the primary methods of communication.

How to Fake a Clean House

Who here has ever read Real Simple? Subscribed to the magazine? Checked out their website? Maybe gets weekly e-mails?

ME!

I love Real Simple. Mainly because their stuff and ideas are... ready for it?... real simple. HA!

Some weeks ago I got my weekly tip... How to Fake a Clean House. Yes please! I would love to know how to do that.

So here are a couple ideas. You can also click the link below for more ideas.
  1. Reserve one side of sofa cushions to be shown to guests. Before company arrives, flip over the cushions to reveal good-as-new fabric. When guests are gone, flip them back.
Hi, I have a dark blue couch and a dog with white fur. This will serve as a great tip.
  2. Cover up the lingering aroma of last night’s supper by boiling nutmeg, cloves, or cinnamon and orange peels in a sauce-pan on the stove.
I bet that smells good. Sounds like it will smell like Christmas doesn't it?
  3. Glide a sticky lint roller over the bath mat to pick up hair.
"Hello, I'm a girl and I shed." "Hi shedding girl." I shed most while blow drying my hair. Gonna have to try this one too!
  4. Rearrange crooked books so that all spines are facing the same direction and the titles all read from top to bottom.
I think it's just time for me to clean out my book shelf of books I don't need to keep or don't plan on reading again. Amazon anyone...?
  5. Stow pajamas under the pillow. This way, they’re off the floor and ready for later.
Aha! This is one I already do! Go me!
  6. Drape a scorched ironing board with a clean white sheet, tuck in the edges to fashion a make-shift cover, and place the board in the far corner of the room or behind the door.
Although, in order for the ironing board to be scorched it would need to be used. I think only one person has ever used my ironing board, and it wasn't me. But we're not talking about him right now.
So there you have it. Some ideas on how to fake clean. I love the idea of faking clean and never having to clean.

Hummm... maybe that will be another article another week.

March Results

Look who's on time this month!
  1. Run (not walk) a 5k race.
01 - So, ah, I've gone walking once or twice. That's a start!

02 - I've gone walking a few more times than I did in January. That's progress!
03 - Definitely went walk/jogging more often in March. Oh, and crunches, I've done some crunches!
  2. Read the Bible in a year.
01 - So far, so good!
02 - I'm doing just dandy with this. I've completely read through Genesis, Exodus, and Hebrews. I'm almost done with Leviticus and Proverbs.
03 - On track! In March I've finished reading though Leviticus, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon.
  3. Lose 10 pounds.
01 - So what if I told you that I was down 9 pounds by my own scale in just January alone? Yep, it's true. Wanna see my chart? Of course you do!
    02 - 5.5 pounds down...from returning cruise weight...
03 -Down 1 pound. Hey, it's a loss! See chart below...
  4. Post a picture a day...taken on that day... instead of a quote a day.
01 - Ok, so I've slacked a few days. But I get caught up!
02 - After the cruise I slacked on taking a picture a day. But I was still posting a picture a day. I'll work on that...
03 - Still not doing the best on the picture being from that day, but whatever, I'm posting a picture a day.
  5. Have monthly dinner party, or at least invite some friends over for dinner.
01 - I failed for January. February isn't over yet though...
02 - The last couple weeks I've had my family over for dinner on Friday nights. And I've volunteered to have TND at my house the 5th Tuesday of March. I'll let you know how that goes.
03 - Woot woot! Hosted TND on the 5th Tuesday. Total about 15 people came. I made this for dinner. It was good! Making a vow to have people over more often.
  6. Down size possessions...aka clutter
01 - I've gone through my closet and through my pile of purses.
02 - I rearranged the living/dining room and went though some more of my closet.
03 - Sure...? I actually physically removed the bags of stuff to get rid of. So I guess that counts since it was cluttering up my room.
  7. Try new recipes from the cookbooks I have. (see #5, they will be guinea pigs...)
01 - Boo me! How does cereal sound? Mac & Cheese...?
02 - Ummmm... I haven't tried anything new. But I've tried new things that my mom has made. Does that count...?
03 - Family = guinea pigs. Poor family...
  8. Exercise a minimum of 3 times a week (walk/jog, Wii Fit, DVD, etc., see #1 which will lead to #3)
01 - I've averaging about once a week of exercising on purpose. But I do activities that include activity.
02 - Boo! I'm still on the once a week average. Time to kick it into gear!
03 - Need to make a REAL commitment to do this on a regular basis. Once the habit is made I'll be in good shape. The time change has really kicked my butt though, I get home and I just want to be lazy.
  9. Daily make time for God.
01 - Doing well. Spending lots of time in prayer. I'm not even kidding.
02 - There is always room for improvement here. But I'm human and I'm trying. I pray more regularly and I'm in the Word daily. That's definitely moving in the right direction.
03 - If you count my daily readings as time spent with God then I'm doing well. Although it's not always necessarily quality time though...
  10. Travel somewhere new.
01 - Just got back from a cruise to Cabo about a week and a half ago.
02 - Um, did I go anywhere in February? I don't think so. But that's ok!
03 - Currently there are no travel plans and I don't like that! I need to plan something asap to make me feel human again!

Picture of the Day 96

April 6th: Matthew 27:1-31; Deuteronomy 5-6; Job 6

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you sit up.
Deuteronomy 6:5-7

Hold My Heart

Last weekend I saw Tenth Avenue North at the Rock and Worship Roadshow in Fresno. I would say that they are my new favorite group. Their song "Hold My Heart" really speaks to me, probably because it's how I feel.

How long must I pray, must I pray to You?
How long must I wait, must I wait for You?
How long 'til I see Your face, see You shining through?

I'm on my knees, begging You to notice me.
I'm on my knees, Father will You turn to me?

One tear in the driving rain,
One voice in a sea of pain
Could the maker of the stars
Hear the sound of my breaking heart?
One life, that's all I am
Right now I can barely stand
If You're everything You say You are
Would You come close and hold my heart

I've been so afraid, afraid to close my eyes
So much can slip away before I say goodbye.
But if there's no other way, I'm done asking why.
I'm on my knees, begging You to turn to me
I'm on my knees, Father will You run to me?

One tear in the driving rain,
One voice in a sea of pain
Could the maker of the stars
Hear the sound of my breaking heart?
One life, that's all I am
Right now I can barely stand
If You're everything You say You are
Would You come close and hold my heart.

So many questions without answers, Your promises remain
I can't see but I'll take my chances to hear You call my name
To hear You call my name

One tear in the driving rain,
One voice in a sea of pain
Could the maker of the stars
Hear the sound of my breaking heart?
One life, that's all I am
Right now I can barely stand
If You're everything You say You are
Won't You come close and hold my heart.

Hold my heart, could you hold my heart?
Hold my heart.

How long must I pray and wait God? Do you hear the sound of my breaking heart? I know you're testing me with my patience. I hope I'm passing. But won't you, won't you come close and hold my heart...

Joy

Doh! I've been tagged! So here are the details: This one is about JOY. I am to list 6 things that bring/give me joy and tag 2 other people to do that same.
  1. Family - Spending time with my family brings me great joy. Whether it's my immediate family or extended, we always have a good time. And every time we all get together I enjoy sitting back and taking it all in, thankful that we get along so well.
  2. Friends - Hanging out with, chatting with, visiting, entertaining, etc. with friends brings me joy. I am a people person and I enjoy being surrounded by those whose company I enjoy.
  3. Love - Being in love and receiving love brings me great joy. There is nothing better then knowing that someone loves me for who I am, warts and all. And not just because they're family. I look forward to the day that I can experience that form of joy on a daily basis.
  4. Giving - I give time. I give gifts. I give in hospitality. I experience joy by giving to others in many forms, especially when it's least expected.
  5. Peace - Quiet. Nature. Beauty. All forms of peace are ways that God shares joy. That quiet time to reflect on what all I'm thankful for. Although I'm a people person, I also relish my quiet time alone.
  6. Traveling - I like to travel. I enjoy traveling. Traveling brings me joy. Seeing and experiencing new things and new places is great. The excitement of planning and packing and the act of traveling to and seeing and doing and and and. All of it is great. Well, not the part about having to go back to work when it's over.
Now I tag...Kaitlin and Krista.

See that spike in the middle? Yeah, that was the cruise...
*update*I lied! It was 5.5 pounds I lost in February. Mainly attributed to the fact that I gained on the cruise.
  4. Post a picture a day...taken on that day... instead of a quote a day.

02 - There is always room for improvement here. But I'm human and I'm trying. I pray more regularly and I'm in the Word daily. That's definitely moving in the right direction.
  10. Travel somewhere new.
01 - Just got back from a cruise to Cabo about a week and a half ago.
02 - Um, did I go anywhere in February? I don't think so. But that's ok!

My first job: food service

I started working when I was about 7, maybe I was 5. That's the joy of your family owning their own business. What did I do you ask? I catered. Well, as the cute little kid I passed the sausages around and tried to stay out of the way for the real work to be done. I think I was paid a couple bucks a job. Hey, as a youngster, a couple bucks was a lot.

Over 20 years later I still help Mom when she really needs the help. And when I really need the money.

But don't worry, I make more than a couple dollars a job these days.

Skippy loves getting his back scratched. And believe me, he'll let you know the exact spot he'd like scratched.

Notice, my hand did not move. I just held it out there and Skip guided.
Right there. No. Wait...
Well come on, aren't you going to scratch my butt?
Ok, then I'll turn around and help you out.
